Deputy Director Obligations: Rocketry

Note: .5 months of salary is allocated for this position.  Actual effort may vary based on the selected faculty’s base salary but should stay in a similar scope.

Obligations as outlined in SG8:

Reality (what that really looks like):

  1. Coordinate workshops and launches (2 big events per year, possible other smaller ones)

    1. We have funds out of the UW portion of the award for supplies and logistics for Consortium wide rocketry workshops and launches.  Consortium wide makes it sound huge – it’s not, just a few member schools participating.  So while the Consortium members work on their own activities with their student groups during the year, it’s our job to provide some learning opportunities and an opportunity for their students to launch their rockets.

    2. Coordinate content for workshops – Deputy Director would not be the only presenter but would need to curate the list of topics and make sure it’s at an appropriate level for the attendees (very easy – just needs good communication with the partners and willingness to look for new resources)

  2. Survey needs and provide technical assistance for Consortium members

    1. Continued communication throughout the year with the members to check in on their needs

    2. Coordinate with Space Grant Rocketry Graduate Fellow – the fellows make their own learning outcomes so this will vary but just making sure they have what they need to get those done and can contribute to the consortium activities and/or lend their own technical expertise

    3. Assist with technical questions or needs that are beyond the scope of the partner institution (we have a method for this, folks can submit assistance or facilities requests via our website)

  3. Provide guidance for new initiatives

    1. Not much here, just as needed.  A good example is some rocketry activity that was added onto one of our funding augmentations specifically for Northwest Indian College.  It’s good to have someone keeping tabs on what folks in the network are doing so that if funding pops up we know where it might be best used.

    2. We have a longer term goal of putting some content on the WSGC website of some basic “how to” guides, but that will come together as the events progress.  Bottom line is that documentation is key – if someone brings a resource to a workshop, that needs to make its way to me.
