The Space Grant undergraduate program at UW is designed to create a small college atmosphere within the larger university. To that end, the Space Grant office is intended to be a welcoming community space. Here’s how we aim to accomplish that:
Office hours are Monday–Friday, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Coffee, tea, and snacks for Space Grant students
A quiet place to study at the conference table
Office hours
The Space Grant office should have consistent staffing throughout our advertised office hours. As we don’t advertise a lunchtime closure, this means working with colleagues to stagger breaks. Also, to create an open and welcoming office environment, ensure that both banks of office lights are turned on, the blinds on the door are open, and the office is overall tidy.
Snacks
The snacks in the snack zone are for any Space Grant student passing through who needs a pick-me-up. The conference table area is a reservable space for A&A faculty and staff, but the snacks are not part of that deal.
Conference table studying
Space Granters have CAAMS access to 241 AERB during our stated office hours. Students who wish to linger to study after 4 p.m. may do so if staff will be in the office and are amenable. If the conference area has been reserved for a meeting, naturally we politely tell Space Granters that they’ll have to move.
