Taking an Alternate Course for a Degree Requirement

Taking an Alternate Course for a Degree Requirement

The online Graduate Degree Requirement Petition may be used to request that alternate coursework satisfy an A&A degree requirement. Students are encouraged to consult with both their faculty advisor and the Graduate Program staff adviser prior to submission. If students are petitioning more than one requirement, the online form must be filled out for each individual requirement.

The online form requires students to write a petition reasoning that explains why the alternate course should satisfy degree requirements.  Students will need to obtain a copy of the syllabus for the alternate course to include with the petition.  Once the petition form is received, the Graduate Committee will review the request and the Graduate Program staff adviser will notify the student of the outcome.

We strongly recommend submitting your petition before you take alternate coursework in order to avoid taking courses that do not count toward your degree requirements.
