Walking in Spring Graduation as a Summer Grad
I am a summer graduate, but I don't want to wait until the following spring to walk in AA Department and UW graduation ceremonies. Can I participate in those during spring quarter while I'm still here?
Yes! Here's how:
AA Department Graduation
Let Danyel know you'd like to participate in the department graduation in mid-April.
RSVP for the AA Graduation and request your guest tickets. You should receive an email, but keep an eye on the AA Events website as well.
File a degree request for summer quarter, since it is your actual graduation quarter.
UW Commencement ceremony
Eligibility for the UW Commencement ceremony is tied to having been awarded a degree in the preceding summer, autumn, or winter quarters, or having a master's degree request on file for the current spring quarter.
Since summer graduates aren't able to submit master's degree requests until summer quarter, the workaround is to file a master's degree request during spring quarter:
File a spring master's degree request in MyGrad by the third Friday of spring quarter (this ensures that your name will appear in the UW Commencement program).
When you do, email Danyel to let her know that you are a summer graduate, so she can withdraw your request at the end of spring.
Register for Commencement through the Office of Ceremonies website during the registration period, typically in early May.
File another master's degree request in summer quarter, since it is your actual graduation quarter.
