Machine Shop Usage
A&A's Machine Shop is prioritized first for both A&A courses and affiliated RSO's requiring machine shop time
Prior to using shops in other departments on campus (such as in Mechanical Engineering), groups must obtain written approval from their advisor/course instructor, including which budget to use before reserving time in other spaces. This approval should then be shared with the Administrator and Director of Academic Services when the space reservation is made. Please confer with your TA or GSA and facilities team to see if using other spaces is absolutely necessary.
Facilities Request Procedure
Groups submit requests for Machine Shop time and fabrications via request form by Tuesday afternoon the week before it is needed to their TA or GSA.
TA or GSA reviews the requests and confirms there is enough information for the facilities group to accomplish the tasks
TA or GSA schedules students on the Machine Shop calendar directly by end of day Wednesday.
TA or GSA routes fabrication requests to aafacilities@uw.edu by end of day Wednesday.
Machine Shop calendar opens Thursday mornings for other scheduling, (lab-based students can still be scheduled but it will be on a space available basis)
Facilities team will review and confirm fabrication requests by end of day Thursday. Questions or concerns will be routed through the appropriate TA or GSA.
Purchasing Request Procedure
Groups submit requests for purchases via request form at the by Tuesday afternoon weekly to their TA or GSA, which include confirmation requested item is in stock and approval from advisor
TA or GSA reviews the requests and confirms there is enough information for the purchasing team to proceed.
TA or GSA sends requests to purchasing via aerobuy@uw.edu by end of day Wednesday
Purchasing reviews and sends any follow up by end of day Thursday and processes by Monday morning
TA or GSA monitors package pick up list and gets packages for distribution to student groups
TA or GSA works directly with student groups to pick up packages
