Student Advisory Council

PURPOSE

The A&A Undergraduate Student Advisory Council (uSAC) is a committee of the William E. Boeing Department of Aeronautics & Astronautics, comprised of declared undergraduate AA majors. uSAC members are responsible for representing the full range of needs and perspectives among A&A undergraduates and facilitating communication between departmental leaders and the student body.

RESPONSIBILITIES

In addition to attending the regularly scheduled meetings of their respective committees, members of the uSAC are expected to

  • Meet as a whole at least once per quarter to identify, discuss, and offer recommendations on important issues for undergraduate AA majors.

    • At least one Council meeting every quarter should include an open session for all A&A students to raise questions or concerns.

    • The Council is responsible for identifying and inviting appropriate guests (including department leadership) to meetings based on the agenda.

  • Identify and send appropriate representatives to departmental leadership meetings (meeting dates, locations, and agendas will be announced by the Department Chair).

  • Accurately represent undergraduate student interests within committee meetings.

  • Report back to the undergraduate student body about important events, activities, and developments within the committees on which they serve.

MEMBERSHIP

The uSAC is comprised of at least seven (7) members, including

  1. Undergraduate Committee, UG Student Representative*: Policies, procedures and oversight of the undergraduate program

  2. Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion Committee, UG Student Representative*: Strategic planning of the department diversity plan and implementation of the plan

  3. Safety Committee, UG Student Representative*: Oversees safety guidelines and recommendations for the department.

  4. Space Allocation & Utilization Committee, UG Student Representative*: Handles reviews of requests for space resources for all elements of the department

  5. Senior Class Representative** (Represents the interests of the senior class)

  6. Junior Class Representative** (Represents the interests of the junior class)

  7. Sophomore Class Representative** (Represents the interests of the sophomore class)

 

*UG Student Representatives to department committees are selected annually based on an open call for applications managed by the department. Students are invited to join committees based on an overall assessment of their application statements, including previous involvement with departmental activities. Final committee membership is determined by the Department Chair.

**Class Representatives are identified through an annual nomination and selection process facilitated by the Undergraduate Advisor (aeroadvising@uw.edu).

OFFICERS

From within its membership, the uSAC will select at least two council officers.

  • Chair: The Council Chair will coordinate with all council members to facilitate meeting agendas an serve as a primary point of contact for receiving, directing, and responding to council business.

  • Recording Secretary: The Council Secretary will maintain and distribute council records including meeting agendas, minutes, and attendance records.
