Responsibility & Safety

The department is responsible for the spaces that we utilize at the University of Washington.  As a member of the A&A department, you play a role in the health and upkeep of the department's spaces.  Please mindful of these responsibilities when given access.  If you do not have authorization or have not gone through proper training for a particular space or equipment, please do not enter or use.  When in doubt, ask an A&A faculty or staff member that is in charge of that space or equipment.

Department Buildings

  • Guggenheim Hall (GUG):

    • All A&A students have access to GUG 24 hours/7 days a week when currently enrolled for the quarter.

      • You are able to access the building using the card readers and your Husky Card.

    • On the first floor of GUG, you will find the Bossart Machine Shop. Individuals can access the Bossart Machine Shop ONLY when working on an approved project for education or research purposes.

  • Aerospace Engineering Research Building (AERB):

    • All individuals with an office/desk space located in AERB are issued a physical key for access.

    • All other individuals can access the building during regular business hours.

  • Kirsten Wind Tunnel (KIR):

    • All individuals employed by the Kirsten Wind Tunnel will have access to this space.

    • All other individuals can access this space ONLY when working on an approval project for education or research purposes.

  • Aerodynamics Laboratory (aka 3x3 Low-Speed Wind Tunnel) (ADL):

    • All individuals employed by the 3x3 Low-Speed Wind Tunnel will have access to this space.

    • All other individuals can access this space ONLY when working on an approved project for education or research purposes.

Department Laboratory Spaces

Department laboratory spaces are used for A&A education purposes only.  You typically will only be in the space during the scheduled time of your lab class.  For lab courses that are listed as TBA, you will be in the lab at specific times as coordinated by your instructor/team.  All students must complete safety trainings as identified by their instructor before being allowed to enter the space.  You should only be in department lab spaces in order to complete work for the lab course in which you are enrolled.  Department lab spaces should not be used for any other purpose including but not limited to work for another course, research with a faculty member and/or a personal project.

  • A&A Junior Laboratory (AERB 117)

  • A&A Senior Capstone Laboratory Spaces (AERB 139/221)

Computing & Computer Lab

The department provides a student computer lab and remote desktop access in order for you to successfully complete your coursework.  All A&A students have access to 24 hours/7 days a week when currently enrolled for the quarter.  Since this is a shared space, we ask all A&A students to be considerate of each other when using the space.  You are able to access the A&A Student Computer Lab using the card reader and your Husky Card.

Denton Study Room

The department provides a study space for all A&A students in order to work on course work either individually or in groups.  Since this is a shared space, we ask all A&A students to be considerate of each other when using the space.  You are able to access the A&A Denton Study Room by using the card reader and your Husky Card.

  • A&A Denton Study Room (GUG 205)

COVID19 UPDATE: Although there is a microwave and refrigerator in the Denton Study Room for student use, eating or drinking is not permitted at this time (i.e., a face mask is required in this common space).  You are encouraged to eat nearby at the HUB or outside when weather permits.

Meeting Rooms & Meeting Spaces

The department has a limited amount of meeting rooms and spaces.  Priority for meeting rooms will go to department committee meetings, faculty research groups meetings, TA office hours and other department sponsored events.   For group meetings for classes, you are able to utilize meeting spaces in the faculty office alcoves on the 3rd floor of GUG or the alcoves on most floors of AERB.  To learn more and/or request a department meeting space at: https://www.aa.washington.edu/intranet/facilities-and-infrastructure/reserve.  We also encourage you to utilize Scout to find other study spaces on the UW campus.

  • GUG 211D (meeting room)

  • GUG 305 (meeting room)

  • AERB 130 (meeting room)

  • GUG & AERB alcoves
